Battlefields
The Battle of Shrewsbury in 1403 was one of the bloodiest in English history. The use of massed archers was said to have turned the sky "black with arrows". In some ways the battle could be seen as an early form of industrialised warfare in the cause of power and control over the land.
In the 21st centruy, areas such as Shrewsbury's more recent Battlefields Enterprise Park and those elsewhere in Europe, suggest that issues of control and rebellion continue to shape the territories around towns.
